Nancy Harvey Steorts Marquis Who's Who Lifetime Achievement Honoree

Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, has presented Nancy Harvey Steorts with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. Steorts celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Leading a diverse and successful career for more than 60 years, Ms. Steorts is a recognized business professional who has worked in political service, real estate, media and international management consulting. A former chairman of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission in Washington, D.C., since 1984, she later established Nancy Harvey Steorts International as the president and chief executive officer in 1990 with offices in both Washington and Dallas. Ms. Steorts also established Nancy Harvey Steorts & Associates in 2000, where she serves as a spokesperson, speaker and author. Additionally, she is an associate broker for Long and Foster Real Estate, Christy's International Real Estate, in Alexandria, Virginia, since 2010.

She served as the Official United States Representative to the Public Health, Medical Equipment and Drugs Expo, held in Moscow, USSR, and was selected as a Delegate to the U.S. Working Committee on Standards between Russia and the United States. She was appointed by the American National Standards

Institute, as a delegate from the United States on the NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement) Delegation on Environmental Standards. She was Chairman and implementer of the first trade mission to Spain for Women Entrepreneurs from Texas, which was sponsored by the United States Department of Commerce. In addition, she was a delegate to the first Women's Entrepreneur Trade Commission to Europe and the former Soviet Union, which was sponsored by the Department of Commerce. She has also been a speaker and delegate to the Public Health Care Mission to the Czech Republic. In addition, she was appointed by the Secretary of Commerce to the Department of Commerce "Export Now" National Advisory Committee.

When she was President of the Dallas Citizens Council, she worked closely with HRH, Prince Charles of UK on a very important Program focused on Minority Economic Development which she initiated with the Dallas Citizens Council. Prince Charles initiated a similar program in the UK. Ms. Steorts and Prince Charles shared their expertise on this important initiative with on site visits to both London and Dallas.

Ms. Steorts has spoken extensively throughout the world on safety issues, regulatory issues, standards, women's issues, and partnerships between the public and private sector. Venues have included Spain, UK, Finland, Switzerland, Mexico, Jordan, Hong Kong, China, Japan, Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia Russia, Ukraine, Kiev, Canada, and the United States.

Some of Ms. Steorts other noteworthy roles have included her position as the president and chief executive officer of the Dallas Citizen's Council and a consultant to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. She was also a consultant to the special assistant to the president of consumer affairs at The White House and a special assistant to the secretary of agriculture for consumer affairs for the U.S. Department of Agriculture. During the course of her illustrious career, Ms. Steorts notably worked under five U.S. presidents.

Ms. Steorts has presented widely in her area of expertise at more than 1,000 events. She was a distinguished lecturer at several institutions, has been active on countless committees, advisory boards and councils, and has lent her expertise on the boards for private and governmental organizations. Ms. Steorts, who continues to advocate for quality and safety for the consumer, has also authored several highly successful books, including "Safety and You," "Safe Living in a Dangerous World" and "Your Home Safe Home: Smart Ways to Safeguard Your Home and Everyone In It." In addition to her books, she has contributed articles to various local and international publications. Ms. Steorts has also been involved in television by hosting and producing regular television segments and by appearing on network television and radio shows.

To support her professional endeavors, Ms. Steorts has held multiple key roles within her community, including as a trustee of the Food Safety Council. Other local commitments to her credit have included appointments on the board of directors of such organizations as the Council of the Better Business Bureau, the Texas Women's Alliance and the Junior Achievement of the United Way of Dallas. She has also been particularly active with her alma mater, Syracuse University (SU), where she was notably named as the Most Outstanding Student and was the recipient of the George P. Arents Medal for Excellence in Government, which is considered the highest award that can be bestowed to alumnae. Ms. Steorts served as a member of the national board of visitors for the college of human development, is on the national corporate advisory council of the Whitman School of Management and is a board director of the SU Alumni Association.

Ms. Steorts received a Bachelor of Science from SU in 1959. Eminently qualified in her field, she is a licensed broker and is green certified through the National Association of Realtors. Affiliated with several prominent industry organizations as a commitment to her field, Ms. Steorts is a member of the America Home Economics Association, the American Association of University Women, the National Consumers League, the American Women in Radio and TV, National Association of Realtors, the National Conference Consumer Organizations, and the International Women's Forum. She served as president of the Executive Women in Government and is a board director of the State of Virginia Association of Realtors.

Ms. Steorts has been recognized with the Margaret Dana Award from the American Society of Testing Materials and with a Special Award for Consumer Concern from the National Diet Workshop. She was also named among Five Outstanding Servants by the Gallagher Report and was just recently named to the Northern Virginia Association of Realtors Hall of Fame in 2019. A celebrated Marquis listee, Ms. Steorts has been cited in over a dozen editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Finance and Industry and Who's Who of American Women.
